Spring Gutter Maintenance Is A Must
Spring Rain Is Here
We often focus heavily on fall gutter maintenance, but the truth is, spring gutter maintenance is just as important. Why are we conditioned this way? Falling leaves are hard to ignore. The site of overflowing leaves in your gutters is an eyesore and a good indication that the gutters are unable to perform correctly. In the spring, leaves may not be noticeable, but with the extreme record-breaking Iowa winter we had, your gutters and home may have experienced additional damage that you haven’t seen in previous years.

Gutters could have fallen off your home over the winter. Iowa experienced a record-breaking snowfall and all that added weight could have caused your gutters to pull away from your home.

Are you fed up with climbing ladders? With LeafGuard®, your gutters are clog-free guaranteed.
Why Spring Gutter Maintenance Is A Must
Spring means showers. Gutters are the first line of defense in directing water away from your home. Gutters protect your roof, siding, soffits, windows, foundation, and more, that is why inspection and maintenance are so important.
Check Your Gutter System For Damage
Before heavy rains begin to fall, inspect, clean, and check your gutter system for damage. Remember, check the ENTIRE draining system. The downspouts play an equally important role in diverting rainwater quickly and safely away from your home. An easy way to check for clogs or leaks and clean the downspouts is, turn the water on and run a hose down from the top. If you notice water backing up into the gutter, you may have to take apart the downspout and find the cause of the clog.
Observe any hanging or fallen gutters, and missing or damaged downspouts. Damage could have been caused by fallen limbs, ice damming, clogs, or even by the weight of snow. Make sure to check the seams of your downspouts and the elbow connections. Seam separation can be a result of swelling debris or freezing. Downspouts are installed with the seam facing your home and if they have separated, snowmelt and rainwater will leak against your home’s siding and foundation.
