Give Your Home’s Exterior A Patriotic Face Lift
Summertime is finally here! The weather is gorgeous, kids are home from school, and the Fourth of July is just around the corner. It’s time to give your home’s exterior a patriotic facelift in preparation for Independence Day. Don’t be fooled into buying expensive cookie-cutter outdoor decorations. With so many local craft stores around Des Moines such as Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Joanne Fabrics, you can complete a number of DIY exterior Fourth of July decorations that won’t break the bank. You’ll end up with a one-of-a-kind decoration that will make your neighbors jealous. An added bonus: put those little idle hands to use and get your kids into a crafty summertime project that you’ll both be proud to see displayed outside.
WINDSOCK
This Fourth of July windsock is a classic hanging ornament that can be made with only a few supplies and some that you might already have in your home! It’s a great beginner project because it has so few steps and uses common materials. Make more than one, hang them up around your home using your favorite hanging vessel, such as a shepherd’s hook, and you’ll have the perfect red-white-and-blue pop of flair you were looking for. All you’ll need to do for this project is to scour your recycling for a large tin can, and then run to your favorite craft store for white contact paper, red and white ribbon, jute string, and metallic blue spray paint.
